Great Rivers Irrigation
Since 1960
Stuart Pedersen, newly discharged from the army
in 1946 following WWII, and with no job in site, set
about helping on his Fathers fruit farm.  The farm at
that time consisted mostly of strawberries. Stuart
was put to hoeing strawberries and helping move a
very, very primitive irrigation system from field to
field.  Stuarts father started purchasing new pipe as
soon as it became available after WWII. This pipe
was 4” or larger, galvanized steel and came in 20’
lengths, and was tremendously heavy.

In 1953, three things happened. Stuart became a
partner with his Father.  Stuart started selling for
Moulton Irrigation. And irrigation pipe started to
switch from galvanized steel to aluminum.  Now they
could use the pipe to water the strawberries, and
also for frost protection.

By 1960 use of aluminum for both irrigation and
frost protection was becoming quite widespread.
With no abundance of irrigation dealers in the area,
and every year the demand for irrigation becoming
greater. Stuart made the decision to start his own
company.  Thus was born Great Rivers Irrigation.
Over the years GRI grew steadily in sales and out of
its shop.

In 1992 a new bigger plant was built. Then also in
this same year Stuart purchased the company he had
started with originally, Moulton Irrigation Products,
which became a division of GRI.

Now almost 50 years later, GRI is still under the
original ownership. Still with the same iron clad
determination to sell, install, and service the finest
irrigation and frost control systems available
anywhere.
